THE MAD HATTER
Welcome, Mad Hatter! You have been chosen for the role of a SERIAL KILLER - a killing role. The Queen of Hearts laments the loss of one of her more interesting residents of Wonderland. She has tasked you with providing entertainment for the few weeks to come. Your goal is to kill as many people over the course of two weeks. For each successful kill, they will receive a personalized incentive.
However, there is someone who will be attempting to stop the slaughter before it happens. Be warned.
A list of rules are as follow:
2. They will only be allowed to use the environment for their kills. No weapons will be provided, so get creative!
3. The Mad Hatter is at risk of being executed. If executed, they will lose all incentives gained.
New top levels will be created in this post for each week the Mad Hatter is alive. The White Rabbit will meet with the Mad Hatter on
+ MURDER PROPOSALS + IC RULEBOOK + HOUSING
week 1
TuesdayMonday Evening, you will find it hard to fight sleep. When you fall into your safe slumber, you will find yourself awakening to something other than your bed.A chime of a Grandfather clock awakens you, your body slumped over into an arm chair that overlooks a 10 ft tall fireplace. Gold ornate designs with checkerboard patterns fill your vision — quite fitting for the Queen's Timeshare, is it not?
The White Rabbit is visible, pacing back and forth nervously. ]
Are you awake yet? She chose you. S-She really chose you. How could this choice happen so quickly...? [ The creature seems in disbelief, clutching at an oversized top hat with a giant Jester card sticking from it's brim. ] His body is still fresh fertilizer for the roses!
[ But, the frantic rabbit looks back to you. ]
You know n-n-n-n-n-not of why you're here. Do you?
no subject
there is nothing at all comforting about it. that rabbit's incessant muttering causes him to gnash his teeth.
he stands up, the heels of his boots clacking against the floor as he calmly approaches the rabbit...and promptly grabs him by the ear. ]
What does she want, Rabbit?
no subject
A replacement, even if temporary!
[ The rabbit sobs, frantic. ]
L-L-Losing her pieces — she has no game to play. No game to watch. F-First the Mad H-Hatter, then Alice, th-then the Hare —! You are her c-c-championooow!!! My pocket, check my pocket!
[ If Mejojo does — he'll find an oversized playing card. His face painted so brilliantly — he is wearing the top hat of the Mad Hatter while standing over a very familiar kingdom skyline. If he flips the card over he will read 'MAD HATTER' and the accompanying rules. ]
no subject
the card is...nice. flattering. mejojo's eyes narrow with scrutiny as he flips it over.
there's a silence.
he smirks. ]
She expects me to kill for her. And how will I be compensated for my generosity?
no subject
Y-You have been chosen for the highest honor of all of Wonderland. The Queen's right hand m-m-man! It was once a title held by the only one who has ever tamed the madness — the only one who used it without bringing ruin to the realm. The Mad Hatter.... E-Even the Queen is infected, but her roses — her roses k-k-keep her sanity!
They must be red! To do so is to celebrate the unbirthdays — and with this group... she would never need to worry again. No, worry never.
[ He's a blabbermouth. ]
F-Four total incentives granted in addition t-to your unbirthday wish! [ He's squirming harder. ] A-And Auger — s-she will not harm him — a-and you'll win this game!
no subject
auger.
his grip on the rabbit's ear tightens. ]
I'm not worried about Auger. [ after all, auger is both a freak and a psychopath, people have been attempting to murder them since they were mere children, it's fine. it's fine! that's what he tells himself.
but the trace of anxiety in his voice isn't all too difficult to detect. suddenly, his grip loosens, and he lets the rabbit drop to the floor. ]
How did the Mad Hatter pass, and what is your Queen infected with?
no subject
[ His cries echo around the walls, bouncing back until he lets go of the rabbit. The poor creature's body hits the floor with a thud. He sobs to himself. ]
Alice — he was fond of Alice. Told her — told her the way out. Told her how to escape. Method he has, no one else has that. [ His voice quivers, looking up. ] The Queen did — did not like that. It was... off with his head.
[ He seems very sad about that. ]
Madness. The Queen is infected with Madness which is d-dangerous to this realm. Only the Mad Hatter wielded it with clarity. The roses — red is rare here. Only few things grow red. The roses grow white but never red. W-W-With your unbirthdays, the roses in her garden turn red. They suppress her madness — but with all of you? She w-w-w-w-will never have to worry about that again!
no subject
[ the word is said with venom, and yet his voice itself is eerily cool. ]
Stand up and compose yourself. If you don't fight for your life, I'll simply have to kill you myself.
[ his ears twitch, and his tail curls idly. ]
She's ill, then. [ like the lobeira. that makes her the perfect candidate for marriage. ] Is there no cure for this disease of hers? What does this Madness entail exactly?
no subject
Y-Yes, ill but not weak. Always a fighter, our lovely Queen. Miraculous she has combatted this curse for so long — nothing short of excellent!
[ He's forcefully singing her praises. ]
M-Madness infects the mind with a need for chaos. Chaos in Wonderland? I-It threatens our very way of life. The Queen is frightful and forceful — her rule extends into the shoreline, the Tugley Woods.... past her own kingdom. She — She keeps the peace.. W-When her madness flares, she becomes irrational and —
[ Fingers to his own throat. ]
T-The cure, you understand, are the roses. Only the red ones. They survive for long periods of time, keeps her at bay, but she has but one singular red one left. Alice — Alice prevented that when she left... her garden is now dreadfully white and p-p-plain!
no subject
She's a madwoman, then. [ he's just going to say all the things you can't, my dear rabbit. ] A delusional, tyrannical, callous woman. A wicked woman who only cares for herself, and would gladly crush you underneath her heel if you were to even doubt her word. It's pitiful...to see a Queen desperately grasping for her own sanity.
[ :'( ]
As the King of Weblin...you have my sympathy, but I don't have time to waste. I'll play this role of yours for a price: a great one.
no subject
T-Then your participation is d-d-duly noted and preparations w-will begin... You have read the rules carefully, have you not? H-How will you go about caring this out? The kill must happen between Thursday evening and r Friday m-morning. I need names to - to prepare for the funeral arrangements.
no subject
[ it's a hiss, and a savage one at that. ]
What will you offer me?
no subject
[ From his pocket, he pulls out a vial that reads "THROW ME". With a toss, the liquid explodes into the fireplace. He sees a familiar scene — something that brings him great joy. Possibly a future? Possibly something he's always dreamed of? Suddenly, the scene pans to his worst nightmare. Anything imaginable because it's midnight, so have at it and trigger your boy. ]
Y-Your future and wishes rely on you! They do, they do. The Queen relies on you and... [ He finally reaches back down to the hat and lifts it up with shaking paws. ] P-Please bring balance back. B-Bring her Mad Hatter back.

it's the country he knows and loves, the country he both rules and serves. the wolves have been mounted and hang from the palace, and the people regard him with utmost warmth. there's a woman's hand in his — she wears a ring. who could that be, i wonder?
baby blue becomes crimson, and the grassy green becomes a trodden brown. it all distorts, warping into a spiral, until it fades into nothing more than— ]
...!!!
[ oh wow. it's him accidentally killing his suicidal mother again. that sure fucking blows. eyes widen with horror, his tail now absolutely rigid as its hairs proceed to stick up individually. his ears fidget erratically; a tremor runs through mejojo's body, one borne from both mortification and rage.
suddenly—
he laughs. ]
H-haha...hahahaha....hahahaHAHAHA...!!
[ he's wheezing, but his laughter quakes as though it's...caught in between something that can only be described as a sob. those heels we know and love echo through the room, and a gloved hand slithers around the rabbit's throat, lifting him up in an iron tight vise for the second time this night. this though, this gesture is far too harsh to be a mere demonstration. there is intent to kill in the way those fingers wrap around the poor creature's throat. ]
You thought...this would be funny, didn't you...!? Showing me this...?! You thought it would...you thought...!
[ mejojo's grip tightens — and then falls limp in that same minute. the rabbit drops to the floor yet again. ]
Her hand in marriage. I want the extermination of every single one of those wolves, anyone who opposes me, the revival of my mother and...her. I want her to be mine. It's the least I deserve for partaking in this wretched little game. Do you understand?
[ this alone proves it. she is a woman with a power that is far greater, grander, magnificent than his. he is her piece, and that simply won't do. he can't lose. he can never let this go. the only way to recover this tremendous loss, this wound to his ego, is to make her his.
this game will not end until she is. ]

Before he can croak a plea for two names, he's choked out. Lifted up, his cheeks puff and ears lay back defensively. Kicking his legs, squirming desperately, he can not get free.
For every word Mejojo gives, the creature nods. Frantic with understanding and acceptance. The Queen... will either go mad with this answer or enjoy the thrill of it all. It is not his place to choose.
He croaks out - ]
Gh-ghkk.. Yes...!
no subject
mejojo is a walking light switch. his shoulders and ears lower, and he presses his lips into a thin line before simply walking back to sit in the armchair again, legs crossed as though he didn't try to choke out this poor rabbit 2 seconds ago. ]
The other 3 Guests — are they my opponents or my allies? And you mentioned my brother earlier: is he here?
[ he asks less out of concern and moreso because slaughtering people without his brother is more tedious than it should be! who's going to tell him how great his ideas are now :'( ]
no subject
[ Sorry, he's rubbing his throat a lot, okay. ]
There are others who have come here with companions from their world — your brother was one, but he is in the Queen's grasps. Her merciful company. Ver-very merciful!
[ Waves his paw to the painting. behind him of the Queen infront of her castle over the sea. ]
S-She keeps him in her kingdom, far from here. Unreachable through the brush and hedges.
no subject
his features soften suddenly, and he looks...somewhat distraught. ]
Auger... [ he mutters to himself...before switching right back. ] She should fear for her life if he's in her presence. My brother is...
[ uh. he doesn't know how to finish this so he won't. ]
I've decided, then. Two people will be annihilated this week.
no subject
[ But he grabs the fucking hat and tosses it at him. PLEASE. ]
S-She has her army. Worry about your choices. Names — n-n-names!! Give me their names!
no subject
You're my first choice.
[ it's said with a small smile — which then dissipates entirely. ]
I'm joking. [ that would be more convincing if he wasn't completely deadpan now. ] Croix Meridies and Esther de Groot. Croix is a smart woman; she's destined to become a thorn in my side. It's better to eliminate one of my kin to offset suspicion, and it seems to me like that woman...ah, Ursula? would cry at the sight of her corpse. That could prove to be entertaining, so I'd like to place the body in her room.
Esther...is always thinking — and even worse, always speaking. I want her gone.
no subject
[ GULP. ]
It will be y-your command...! You don't need to worry of curfew. When you slumber in Wonderland, your mind wanders. You are no longer easily stirred. Not by the pawns of the Queen.
no subject
[ :) ]
I want to speak to the Queen, Rabbit.

There's nothing I'd like more. I'll have a gift prepared for her by Friday — will I be able to send a letter in advance, or will I simply be kept waiting?

the ledger is then promptly motioned towards the rabbit. it reads: ]
Your Highness,
You've made a wise decision. I will serve as your ally in this game of yours. As the King of Weblin, your wish is my command. This kingdom reminds me a great deal of my own — it's almost as though I haven't left home at all.
There are many things I want from this world. Your company is at the top of my list. There is something about you that compels me; perhaps it's your power, raw and unadulterated? Or is it the burden you carry? I'm not certain, but I'd like to uncover it for myself.
I have a gift in store for you. I expect that you'll enjoy it, as it's a labor of...
Hm, I wonder.
Regardless, my Queen, I look forward to your arrival. You're rather cruel, keeping me waiting like this...but I suppose it'll have to do. I have faith that you'll make it worth both my time and longing. I do hope my younger brother isn't causing you any trouble.
With affection,
The Mad Hatter
no subject
Okay. ]
T-This will be delivered promptly to her!
[ He shuts the ledger tightly, binding it with a red ribbon to keep it secure. ]
You can begin your hunt T-Thursday after curfew. You have until the last morning dew drops Friday morning to complete the act.
FRIDAY EVENING
he stomps up to the rabbit, slamming a piece of parchment down onto the coffee table. you know what it is. ]
Who did this.
no subject
Lips! If I had them, t-t-t-t-they'd be sealed! The rules! They can't be broken. It was — another one. One of the Highest of Honored Guests...
no subject
[ :) ]
There's something you simply don't understand. I'm the most important person here. None of these filthy Huma matter. Only I do. Does this Guest know of my identity, Rabbit?

[ how dare other people have sentience. ]
Hmph. Whatever. The Queen is arriving tomorrow, yes?

[ more thoughtfully: ]
Where is the kitchen? Do you have any wine stocked? This is an important matter, Rabbit.

[ god. ]

[ :))) ]
And no, you don't have a say in the matter.
no subject
[ TWITCH. PLEASE NOT RABBIT. ]

Yes! Crystal!
10/14 EVENING
THIS ONE.
mejojo has just finished exploiting the queen's bath, a glass of wine in hand as he sits on the couch, donning nothing but a towel. he'll leave soon.
probably. there's a glass left out for the rabbit as well, because mejojo is a benevolent king. ].
I wasn't lying — I didn't know how to use an axe.
[ he smirks, sipping his wine. ]
Until yesterday.
WEEK 2
Dinner was being served, one plate in front of her and another across the long table.
As he enters, her eyes barely flick upwards. ]
no subject
something in his expression drops at the sight of auger's violin. he seats himself, composure still intact. ]
You've kept me waiting for so long, and yet you maintain this distance between us.
[ a smirk ghosts across his lips. he will not ask about auger, not yet — that card can't be played quite yet.
i'm sorry, auger, a part of him says. i'm doing this for you too. ]
My present. Did you receive it?
no subject
[ She's hot?? ]
I did. It was promptly delivered.
[ There's a small smirk on her face when her new Mad Hatter arrives. He had done well with her other guests to provide entertainment — to provide the nourishment her roses needed. ]
A courter usually offers land or riches, never a literal bleeding heart. You've caught my attention and kept it.
no subject
mejojo von garibaldi is the prince who exterminated house upon house in a fit of rage. he is a whirlwind who will calmly rebuke you one second and drive a blade into your shoulder the next. but he is also the boy who waited patiently and quietly, stewing in his own hatred, for 20 years. who gently swayed his depraved king of a father and combated the scrutiny of an oppressive nobility.
when his gaze flickers towards the violin again, he remembers that he is completely and utterly alone.
so he looks towards her again. smiling, even if something inexplicable burns in his eyes. ]
You have all the land and riches you desire. I wanted to ensure that it would be personal.
[ he stabs a knife into his entree. ]
Is there anything you long for, my Queen?
no subject
You are careful to offer a heart to me, but not your own. Smart man. [ She reaches forward and takes a sip. ] I want nothing more for my roses to come into season and for the lot of you to leave. Wonderland is not your kingdom and I have not the concern to keep you housed in an old Hare's poor village.
no subject
but looks are deceiving, aren't they. he sips his own wine in turn. ]
I have a kingdom of my own to tend to, but I can assure you that doesn't mean I haven't enjoyed my stay here. On the contrary, it's been a learning experience.
[ he leans forward, bangs elegantly swaying to the side for a moment. ]
People are fundamentally weak. Perhaps that's why you interest me. You are powerful — and you understand that the world is a chess board at best.
[ he leans back, this time. ]
Tell me: how did you come into power, my Queen? You must know that I killed my father. I can see it in your eyes: that you've sacrificed something as well.
no subject
Learning, for what, I wonder? [ HMMM. ] I came into power like most: it's in my blood. I came into rule by spilling it. My sisters — two of them born before me — of White and Red. Wonderland was to be theirs and with it, the admiration of its people. However... I always believed a third child shouldn't sit idly while opportunity slips by.
[ She looks down when he covers his bases to challenge her. ]
Sanity. It's a valuable resource here, you know.
