[knave] interrogation 1 & 2

[She's just going to keep her foot there]
So, prove yourself to me. How do I know you aren't guilty, if you're going to be this rude and uncooperative?
no subject
And how do I know you aren't going to kill me, no matter what I say?
no subject
no subject
Because I don't trust you.
[said simply. adults see what they want to see, believe what they want to believe, regardless of the truth. that's the one constant of Akira's world. Croix is no different, especially considering she went about her interrogation like. . . this]
no subject
Exactly. So you don't listen to anything I have to say, regardless of how hard I try to prove it to you.
I don't have any reason to trust you, either. You're making yourself look more guilty by the second. Seriously, what a stubborn attitude....
no subject
You're not the first person to tell me I'm stubborn.
[another attempt at moving, but-- all that happens in response is a brief twitch of his left foot. god. why this!!]
. . . you could have gone about this another way. Pulled me aside to talk to me in private, anything but this. I want-- [another hiss of pain, and his eyes slip shut, brows furrowed. god damn it] I don't want anyone to die, and I'd do anything in my power to prevent it.
[and then his eyes open again, and he's practically glaring daggers at her]
But if I actually had any information to give you? I sure as hell wouldn't give it now.
no subject
No, I have to carry it out like this. That is my role, as I said. I have no choice but to do it in this fashion, or..... Well, I'm sure you remember how Alice in Wonderland goes -- with the Queen.
[She takes her foot off of his back, to crouch down slightly so she can handcuff his hands behind his back]
Such spirit.... no wonder she took such a liking to you. You're just as reckless and short-sighted as her beloved pupil - her last dream.
[it's been 10 minutes she has to exposition about her gf thanks]
no subject
[and that's enough to get his breath to hitch in his throat, because he knows exactly how things with the Queen usually went in Alice in Wonderland. for all his bravado? Akira didn't want to die. he had too much to live for. too much to return home to. seven friends-- teammates-- counting on his leadership, an entire world counting on his team to free it from the clutches of a controlling god. if he died here, then. . .]
[he doesn't even want to think about it]
[the click of the handcuffs just make things worse, and when she steps away, he somehow manages to roll onto his back, arching a bit as he yanks against the chains. they rattle and clink together like chimes in the wind, a sound that's far, far too familiar for comfort]
[he doesn't respond verbally. he doesn't know which body part he's moving, but he does someone manage to lash out with one foot and aim a kick at her shin. SORRY NOT SORRY CROIX]
no subject
What are you trying to accomplish here, struggling blindly? If you really wanted to save people, to get out of here alive, you need to take action. Real action. Idealism and defiance will only take you so far.
[it's time to settle down and listen to her monologues]
Are you willing to kill the Queen to achieve your hope? To kill the guests? Or just run blindly into everything and injure yourself?
no subject
[he falls silent, refusing to deign her questions with a response. he's said his piece. he has nothing more for her]
no subject
It's too bad. You could have used that to end this "celebration", instead of wasting your time trying to fight me.
[And getting his eyes eaten by oysters] I wonder, if she could see you now... what would she think?
[Is she talking about the Queen or Ursula, huh. Anyway, Croix will start... walking away? IS HE FREE??? He's able to move without risk of being kicked or stepped on, though likely he'll still have trouble getting his limbs to work correctly, nevermind that he's injured and handcuffed]
[What will he do?]
no subject
Fuck you--!
[he yells after her, and as soon as she disappears? he's back to squirming, to trying to make the right limbs move at the right time, to yanking fruitless against those handcuffs, ignoring the way the metal digs painfully into his wrists. it can't end like this. it can't, and god damn it if he has any say in this?]
[it fucking won't. just. . . just work with him here, body. just work with him for a single second--]
no subject
[JUST KIDDING, she returns about a minute later as he's struggling, smirking openly at this point.]
Private lesson over.
[What's that in her hands? It's a fucking axe, and even though she's having a bit of trouble wielding it due to being a nerd who lives off of nothing but ramen, she's hefting it up and making her way towards him]
no subject
[at any rate, he freezes again when she reappears, and his eye is immediately drawn towards. . . that axe. he recognize it; it's the same axe he attempted to wield back when they were stuck in the tea room. his expression shifts, fear flickering into the gray depths of his eyes, but the storm of anger still swirls in them as well]
[he's afraid, because he doesn't want to die. but fear. . . fear has never held him back before]
[he attempts to scoot away from her, to hook his foot around the chair and kick it in her direction. somehow, he manages, but his aim is definitely off. his lack of coordination is working against him here]
Yo-- [jesus] You really think this is justice?
no subject
[It's almost impressive how much he manages to fight while injured, handcuffed, and prone on the ground. It's almost a pity that she has to kill him - maybe he could have been useful. Maybe he could have succeeded in what he was trying to do]
[But the thing is? Akira was right. She'd already decided to kill him from the beginning. She steps over the chair, looming over him with the axe]
No -- this is the Queen's justice.
[She doesn't see any point in keeping up the pretense when she's confident he won't leave the room alive, so]
As for me, well... [She wouldn't expect him to understand, but she shrugs lightly.] I have something that I want to save, too. Sometimes, sacrifices have to be made.
[She's not gonna share any more than that, so here's his last chance for a rebuttal]
no subject
[all selfish adults are the same]
[he doesn't expect her to say more, so he practically spits out the next words, each syllable laced with venom as corrosive as acid]
We all have something we want to protect. That we want to save. You aren't special.
[his mouth curls back into a derisive sneer, and he's still struggling, still moving away from her, as slowly as a caterpillar. but he won't stop, not until the very end, even though he can see the light of the train barreling down the tracks]
I wouldn't hesitate to steal the heart of a wicked and selfish witch like you.
no subject
Oh ho! Well, too bad, Mister Akira [please imagine this is in Engrish] my heart can't belong to you.
[She continues forward until she's standing over him] Alright, that's enough. It's time for the wicked witch to bring justice to the would-be thief -- end him, and this chapter of the book.
[She's going to swing the axe down at his head, but with the flat side so she can knock hi out rather than kill him]
no subject
[for the most part, his body isn't cooperating with him. but this time? it seems to be having pity on him, because his head jerks to the right, just in time to avoid that first blow. it winds up crashing into the ground right next to his ear, and he can feel the vibrations traveling down his spine and into the rest of his limbs]
[he has to try. he has to try. he can't-- he can't let it end like this. . .!]
[it's a last ditch effort. everything hurts, and his injuries mean there isn't nearly as much power in the blow as there would be normally, but. . . he attempts to kick her in the shin one last time. if this-- if this is how things are going to be, then maybe he can at least leave his mark, and maybe someone will figure it out, and--]
no subject
[It's lucky for him that she's not used to really physically exerting herself, so the first swing misses and he's able to launch a counterattack. He gets her shin and she narrows her eyes -- it's not hard enough to leave a mark, but it sure is hard enough to hurt (and also to annoy her!), and she stamps down on his foot again, pinning him and bring the axe up for strike two]
[sadly, he won't be able to dodge this time]
no subject
[there's pain. blinding, white hot pain, striking the side of his head. he sees stars, a brief flash of color that overtakes his senses]
[and then?]
[. . . there's nothing]
[congratulations Croix you have acquired one (1) new unconscious teenage boy, what do?]
